This is a semi-skilled manual labor position that performs in a variety of adverse and uncomfortable weather conditions. Duties performed include general parks/grounds maintenance and repair, including but not limited to the following: picking up trash, mowing, weed eating, edging, blowing, trimming, pressure washing, painting, cleaning, and the inspection, maintenance & repair of facilities and equipment used.

Partial high school education and one year work experience in general grounds maintenance, commercial lawn maintenance or other related experience required.  Must possess a valid Florida Drivers License. Communications Assistant (PT)

 Communications Assistant

This part-time position reports directly to the Extension Director and will provide communication support functions and marketing development, support, and guidance to support the mission and goals of the Extension program in Suwannee County. Punctuality and attending work regularly are required.  Functions are generally diversified and require judgement to apply broader aspects of established practices and procedures:

  • Supports communication, marketing, promotional and educational goals related to Extension programs and services through the development of communication and social media items.
  • Administers and coordinates web page maintenance, including development of new pages and as needed, migration to new content management systems.  Serves as primary or back up contact for media inquiries and social media and blog inquiries/comments. 
  • Handles specific issues and problems related to communications and provides guidance to staff.  
  • Serves as a liaison to County and UF Communications teams on projects to ensure brand standards are maintained and opportunities for cross promotion are maximized. 
  • Serves as photographer at events and programs; creates and maintains a photo management system for the department. 
  • Tracks and reports on communication metrics and outcomes through quarterly and annual reports.  Monitors and analyzes data through software and online tools to support that reporting and adjusts strategies as needed.  
  • Maintains online databases (websites, blogs) and social media accounts.
  • Answers multi-line phones, assists clients, customer service to internal/external customers and works with volunteers and interns. 
  • Operates and maintains standard office equipment and county vehicles.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings. 
  • Other duties as assigned by Extension Director.  

Minimum qualifications: High school diploma or GED and relevant experience in website development and social media management.  Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher or Canva are required.  Knowledge of social media, teaching/meeting platforms, website development preferred.  Applicants must also possess a valid Florida Driver’s license.  Preferred qualifications: AA or BS degree in communications/marketing Rate of pay is $12.50-$21.61, depending on qualifications and experience.

This is a part-time position to work on a regular basis and will report to the Parks and Facilities Supervisor or designee. Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays. Conservation Technician – Conservation District (FT)

This fulltime position with the Suwannee County Conservation District (SCCD) office, an agricultural partner between local farmers, ranchers, and producers as well as local and state agencies. The fulltime position works with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) to assist landowners with the implementation of Agricultural Best Management Practices (BMP) on the landscape.
